Design and installation by CES.

Client PCC St Mary's.

St Mary's church is a charming church, Grade II.

We were asked by the architects Roger Pope Associates to provide a scheme and feasibility for the complete worship area as well as amenity lighting as part of a reordering project.

The Clients brief was to remove the existing pendants and completely open up the space from the nave into the chancel and through in to the aisle.

This was achieved by using T5 High output lamps at wall plate level in the nave to bathe the ceiling with light and to let the light wash down to pew level creating so much drama, the effect was successful. Supplementary lighting was achieved by high-level floods with Xenon lamps which were set at low levels so to increase light levels throughout the nave.

Directional spot were specially set in to the new pelmets along the wall plate so to keep clean lines.

The chancel was mainly lit with uplighting and directional spots using a mixture of LED and MR16 IR.

The aisle was lit using bespoke wall washers creating uplighting as well as general lighting, again MRl6 IR lamsp used for directional lighting.

A Lighting control system was introduced to provide maximum flexibility for all services throughout the seasons, also for special concerts and functions also held at St Mary's.

Energy efficiency rating A.

The external lighting had to blend in with the historic building, architecture and conservation.

Traditional period lanterns were used for the south porch, low energy floods were tucked up into the eves out of sight to allow a soft light to bathe the footbath and a low energy bulkhead was tucked up high in to the lych gate just to wash light over the floor area.

The result was very successful.

Energy efficiency rating A.

Emergency lighting was also introduced using our own compact twin head spots, the units can be placed out of sight but at the same time using MRII or MRl6 IR lamps can punch a good level of light over exit/escape doors and aisle areas.

The traditional lanterns also had built in emergency control gear.

New 13amp small power was also introduced throughout the worship area using bronze finish plates to match the character of the church.

The tower lighting was also replaced using low energy luminaires with emergency control gear.

The PCC and Fabric committee were overwhelmed by the end result.
